Here are a couple of the front pages from Nov. 5, 2008, the day after Barack Obama became the President-elect. To see more, go to the Newseum website by clicking this link.
Eleven staff members of the Eagle Times, the Bonny Eagle High School student newspaper, will make the trip to Washington D.C. on Jan. 18. Their group leader is Ms. Joanne Lannin, the adviser to the school newspaper and an English teacher at Bonny Eagle High School.
The trip is directed by the Smithsonian Institute, and will include visits to a number of Smithsonian Museums, the Capitol, and a real, working newsroom. On Jan. 20, students will be part of a large group of students in the Mall's public viewing area when Barack Obama is sworn in as our 44th President.
The students will be recording their thoughts, observations, and conversations with other students, and political officials, on this website during the trip.
Upon their return to Maine, students will create a special section in the next issue of the Eagle Times devoted to their historic visit. This special section will also be linked to this website.
Magazine Sales Drive
From September to January, students raised close to $4,000 to help defray the total cost of the trip (about $12,000). In addition the MSAD6 Board of Directors has voted to give us $2,200.
You can support our cause by renewing your magazines or subscribing to new ones through the magazine fundraising website that is linked here.
